When bears become acclimated to human trash as a food source,
a very dangerous situation is created for humans and the bear alike.
With your help and assistance, we can easily implement precautions to ensure
that bears don’t see our neighborhood as their primary feeding ground.
First and foremost, we highly recommend that all owners in the subdivision
upgrade their trash cans to a bear/animal resistant canister. This can easily be done by
contacting your trash provider, and requesting a bear/animal resistant can.
Contact information is provided below for your reference. If you have not done
this already, please take a moment to contact your trash provider and get your
cans upgraded before bear season arrives. Trash cans can only be placed on the street for pickup on the morning of trash pickup day. (unless you have a bear resistant can).
Secondly, the POA has created and tested a very simple and effective process for
reporting bear incidents within the neighborhood. Here’s how it works;
When you see a trashcan that has been overturned by a bear, simply use your
smart phone to take a picture of the can with the home in the background, and
email this photo to Julene Campbell SJRVVicepresident@gmail.com
Julene will email that photo to the owner, along with a very friendly letter to
ensure they are aware of the incident and the steps they can immediately take to
ensure it does not happen again.
If the same residence has another bear incident, Julene will call the owner to
ensure they are aware and discuss steps they can take to ensure it does not
happen again.
If there is a 3rd violation the homeowner will be fined $50.00. The 4th violation will have a $100.00 fine per incident.
This system is simple, easy to administer and provides a friendly atmosphere of
awareness, with a clear focus on accountability for everyone’s safety in the
neighborhood.
If you should have any questions regarding the neighborhoods bear and wildlife
ordinances, please feel free to contact a board member for more information.
